Thank
you for considering Senior Engineering for your project. An Entrepreneur is
measured by passion, dedication, sweat and tears. The journey never ends, but
at some point, the Entrepreneur stops for a second, breathes again and measures
success with pride and accomplishment.
Building
your new business has you in every role, raising capital, licensing,
manufacturing. It is a 7/24/365 challenge. We can help you engineer the right
mobile and web view. Our methodology
will bleed into all aspects of your launch.
We
are a consortium of senior, experienced designers, program/project managers and
coders. Many of us have worked with this technology for decades, often contributing
to the “Standards.”
We start with a free consultation meeting with Jeff. This first meeting should only have public information – perhaps your pitch deck. If you want to go deeper into your project, we can work out a general Non-Disclosure Agreement. We should cover the following: (If you don’t have any of this, don’t worry – this is what we are here for :-))
- Provide a high-level description of your project.
- Your company team and structure.
- Your perceived timeline – please bring any Gantt / roadmap.
- Your current demo.
- What you believe you need to achieve your visa status.
I will review my experience and the experience of the independent resource who are members of this group. There are about two dozen coders and developers in a mid-cost country (I’ll explain why this is of value). We have award-winning designers and companies who support us. Many of the designers hold multiple patents with some of the world’s most successful companies. The designers are located in Canada. Program and project engineers are located in Toronto.
We work using a Lean Startup methodology. Big companies break down roadmaps, timelines and product development using an Agile methodology. It may be appropriate to do this, but Agile most effective in teams of developers working within the confines of an established or extensive project. With limited time, limited resources and a level of uncertainty, the best path forward is “Lean.”
Development in the Lean model is as applicable to engineering as to business modelling. It is crucial that the Entrepreneur understands and agrees to the validated learning model as we get to the product. In this model, we will engage with you in a build-measure-learn loop.

In the first meeting, we will discuss the concept
of “Lean” – It means that we will take multiple stages to get you to
your end product. It means that in each step of the project, we will build a
Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and we will measure “something.” There
is no leap of faith assumptions. “Lean” can be painful, however. You
may learn something that you don’t want to hear early on. The good news is that
you have not spent all of your money on something that isn’t viable. The good
news is that you can still “Pivot.” Your engineering should be MVP
based to get at “Validated Learnings.” We need to have the correct
data to discover the truths about your business measured against your vision.
In simplistic terms, we need to help you step things along the way, so there
are no surprises. Working this way has a slightly higher cost today, but it is
the most effective delivery methodology. There are lots of new terms around
today – Dev Ops delivery, Jira, User-Centric. Don’t worry about them
now.
Based on what you have prepared, we will discuss deliverables. I want to take
away a confirmed resource need. (people, servers, platforms) Perhaps we will
draw some back of the envelope architectures. We will discuss things like
security, public or private cloud, devices, screen sizes.
It is never good to leave a meeting based entirely on hope with no budget in
sight. I’d like you to share your budget thoughts with me.
Based on this first meeting, Jeff will be able to begin to build a Statement of
work and start to build a pricing model.
Tools
We will use Zoom / Whatsapp for most of the communication to keep your
disbursement as low as possible. When working with designers, there are many
“Wireframe” tools that can be used to visualize your User Interface
(UX). We will use InVision unless you have accounts on other platforms.
InVision allows you to discuss and approve work in near-realtime with realistic
demos.
In IOS – we will use TestFlight. We will sideload to Android.
Depending on the scope of the project, and the backend demands, we can decide
on cloud space – (AWS/Azure/Google/IBM/private). All have different values – in
security, maintenance, capacity and price.
All IP developed is your property. We will discuss the use and responsibility
of using FOSS in your project.
We hope that we can help you to achieve your status and welcome you to a life
of success in Canada. Please reach out to me through the YEDI program if you
are interested.
